🏷️ India Wants Labels On AI Ads 🍌 And Nano Banana 2.1's Price Cut Has A Catch

Skylum kills a $250 lifetime licence, and a Nikon prize video gets caught by a SynthID watermark.

Disclosure stopped being optional this week. India's ad watchdog wants AI labels on synthetic influencers and cloned voices, and a prize-winning Nikon microscope video had its AI colouring flagged by a SynthID watermark. The tools keep getting cheaper, with Nano Banana 2.1 at about three cents a 1K image and HunyuanImage 3.0 running on a 12 GB card, but cheaper output does not change who carries the liability. If AI touched it, say so before a watermark says it for you.

India's ad watchdog wants AI labels on synthetic influencers and cloned voices · 8 min read

India's ad watchdog ASCI published AI ad rules on 29 September, live three months later. Ads need a label when AI could mislead a buyer: synthetic influencers, consented voice or face clones, fabricated settings, demos of products that do not exist. Fake testimonials and non-consensual deepfakes are banned outright, and the advertiser carries the liability, so put the label in your delivery spec now.

Italy's competition regulator says Suno's terms make users waive their moral rights · 4 min read

Italy's AGCM opened a probe into Suno's terms on 6 October, flagging discretionary price changes, termination without notice, Massachusetts arbitration, a licence framed in generic and all-encompassing terms, and a waiver of moral rights it says breaches Italian copyright law. Fines run from €5,000 to €10 million, with a public consultation to follow. If Suno sits in your music pipeline, read that licence before you build a catalogue on it.

HunyuanImage 3.0 runs in ComfyUI on a 12 GB card, if you have the RAM and the right country · 1 min read

A new ComfyUI node pack runs Tencent's 80B HunyuanImage 3.0 locally: the 8-step Distil model makes a 1024 image in about 30 seconds on a 4090, with identical output capped at 12 GB of VRAM. The cost moves to RAM, since weights stream from system memory every step and ComfyUI held about 50 GB in testing. Tencent's licence also excludes the EU, the UK and South Korea.

Scientists say Nikon's prize-winning microscope video shows structures AI invented · 4 min read

The winner of Nikon's Small World in Motion contest ran real lung-tissue footage through an unsupervised neural network to colourise it, in a contest that banned generative AI. Scientists say the result has structures with no known biological counterpart, and a LinkedIn commenter spotted a SynthID watermark. If real capture goes through an AI upscaler or colouriser, disclose it, because watermark checks catch it now.

Nano Banana 2.1 halves the 1K image price but triples the input rate · 1 min read

Google's pricing page puts a Nano Banana 2.1 image at $0.0336 for 1K, down from $0.067, and $0.113 for 4K, down from $0.151, so 4K is a quarter cheaper, not half. Input tripled to $1.50 per million tokens, which hits the reference-heavy jobs 2.1 is pitched for, up to 14 references a call. The old model has no shutdown date yet, so test your character sheets first.
